What are the aims of this subject?
• To be active physically, demonstrating knowledge and understanding mainly
through physical activity.
• To engage in activities that develop cardiovascular health, flexibility,
muscular strength and endurance.
• To develop independence through problem solving physical challenges,
evaluating, modifying technique and consolidating skills through practise
and repetition.
• To promote health awareness and the value of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
• To instil a sense of good sportsmanship, and encourage recognition of other pupils’ contribution.
• To develop leadership skills, responsibility and self-awareness.
• To support the development of selfesteem through the development of
physical confidence and helping pupils to cope with both success and failure in competitive and co-operative activities.
• To recognise and follow relevant rules, laws, codes, etiquette and safety
procedures for different activities or events, in practice and during
competition.
• To provide access to external providers of physical activity and sport.
• To ensure all pupils leave Burton PRU with a PE qualification which reflects the best of their ability.

Outline of Course
Physical Education is a compulsory course for all students in Years 7 – 11 in line with the National Curriculum. Physical education enables students to become confident, connected, actively involved and lifelong learners.
Our aim is promote the benefits of daily physical activity with a goal to establish a life-long passion for a healthy and active lifestyle.
We offer students a wide array of sports on and off-site, all lead by fully qualified members of staff / instructors

Outline of Course
BTECs are vocational related qualifications, where learners develop knowledge and understanding in a work-related context. Learners need to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace. These skills include: team working; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively; and accurately completing administrative tasks and processes.
How it’s taught
There is no exam!
There are 4 units, which are internally assessed and externally moderated:
1. Unit 4 Taking Part in Sport
2. Unit 10 Taking part in exercise and fitness
3. Unit 11 How the body works
4. Unit 12 Planning own Fitness Programme
The work is either completed through written assignments or practical. This course is aimed at providing skills that can be used in the modern work place.
