In years 7,8 and 9, students follow a broad curriculum covering the main areas in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, of the science programme of study in the national curriculum.
Key stage 4
Students study for a GCSE in Chemistry (AQA). At the end of year 11 they sit two exams both 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
Paper 1:

Topics 1–5: Atomic structure and the periodic table; Bonding, structure, and the properties of
matter; Quantitative chemistry, Chemical changes; and Energy changes.

Paper 2:
What’s assessed
Topics 6–10: The rate and extent of chemical change; Organic chemistry; Chemical analysis,
Chemistry of the atmosphere; and Using resources.
Questions in Paper 2 may draw on fundamental concepts and principles from sections 4.1 to 4.3.
