Press release: 3rd September

Burton PRU wins National Lottery funding

Burton PRU is celebrating after being awarded £10,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England to allow students to take part in a variety of different educational activities over an academic year that will allow them to gain physical, social and emotional life skills.

The grant will allow Burton PRU to enable students to develop their knowledge, self-esteem and confidence through activities such as mountain biking, visiting places of historical interest such as National trust sites; local leisure centres to participate in a variety of physical activities; libraries, art galleries and places of worship to name a few.

We all like to think that our children will have an easy ride through school, but some young people struggle with mainstream education.  Burton PRU caters for students in Burton on Trent and the surrounding area who have been permanently excluded or are unable to access mainstream school for a variety of reasons. The PRU works with students to enable them to access and achieve success in education and their lives in general.

LOUISE HASTINGS (PE TEACHER), is thrilled to have been awarded the funding:

“We are delighted to have secured this investment which means we can provide Curriculum Enrichment Days for the students to help their individual development, as well as the development of society as a whole. Ofsted highlights the importance of spiritual, moral, social and cultural experiences as central to the development and growth of pupils as people and is at the heart of what teachers would say education is all about.”

Thank you to everyone who plays the National Lottery, we wouldn’t be able to do this without you.”

About Sport England

Sport England is a public body and invests up to £300 million National Lottery and government money each year in projects and programmes that help people get active and play sport.

It wants everyone in England, regardless of age, background, or level of ability, to feel able to engage in sport and physical activity. That’s why a lot of its work is specifically focused on helping people who do no, or very little, physical activity and groups who are typically less active – like women, disabled people and people on lower incomes.
